Today we took an excursion to Fort Bragg,CA to see the sea shore. We chose Rt. 20 which we found out was a switchback road. A switchback road is like an "S". First you go around a curve one way & immediately go the opposite way around another curve going in the opposite direction. It even had a downhill grade of 10%. Yikes! Scary!
This is a very rugged coastline, however, extremely beautiful.
We began touring at the Mac Kerricher State Park which was absolutely beautiful. The state park had a boardwalk that visitors could walk along the coast.
Here are some pictures of what we saw.
This seagull just sat there waiting for folks to photograph him. He never when I came went to him.
The waves were mesmerizing with the the the mountains in the distance.
We even saw some seals swimming near the rocks.
These awesome trees were growing to the opposite side of the boardwalk.
Waves crashing over the rocks.
Carp with the waves in the background.
It was very windy & cold near the shore, but beautiful.
My attempt at a selfie. Boy, do I need practice.
Just thought this was a great picture of the boardwalk with the trees framing the water in the background.
They even had a skeleton of a whale at the state park.
This was another unexpected find. We love it when we can just stopped somewhere we did not plan to & see such beautiful things.
Next we headed to the Glass Beach further up the state park. If you want to see the glass beach check out the internet in Fort Bragg, CA. This is not a good picture of it.
Unfortunately, the beach was down a cliff that neither of us was ready to attempt & we could not really see the glass that supposed to be there, so we wandered around the area & this is what we saw.
There was this awesome walking bridge with the ocean in the backdrop. Now please note the hill to the left. More to come.
This is that walking bridge from the previous picture.
This is the bridge from the ocean side & we are up on top of that hill that I mentioned previously.
Here is a view of the pristine beach below. That was in the first bridge picture.
Waves crashing as they rolled in.
The waves were beautiful.
A nice lady came by & took our picture because I was struggling to take another selfie. Thank goodness!
What a beautiful country we live in!
On the way back to the RV we saw a sign for the Drive Through Tree. This is a tree that you can drive you car through.
See for yourself!
Once we got inside the tree I realized that we could not get out of the car to take pictures because it was so close to the sides of the tree. A nice young lady came by & asked if we wanted our picture taken so once we weaseled out of the car & she took our picture.
This was amazing. We have always wanted to do this. Now we have!
This is me trying to get back into the car to move it out of the tree.
It is a little difficult to make out this tree due to the sun, but this is a felled redwood tree just to show the size of it.
Here is a better picture of the tree.
On our way home around one of the switchbacks on the road we saw this deer at a pullout. So awesome.
Hope you enjoy the adventure!
